BootsnAll's 30 Days of Indie Travel Art Project
Day 2 - #Indie30
When, where, what, and with who is the story of your travel origin?
My desire to travel and see the world is really cut and dry.
In my sophomore year of high school, we had a presentation in French class one day by a girl who studied abroad the previous year and wanted to share her experience. I automatically knew I wanted to spend my junior year in a foreign country and I applied to the Rotary Youth Exchange program, was accepted (to go to France, unsurprisingly) and never looked back.
For me the opportunity to go abroad and start uncovering the world at a young age was invaluable. I knew I was meant to explore the world and not stay in one place. This was the very first chance I had that I could make a reality and I never second guessed doing it. I accredit that to being young, bold and a little different.
I started traveling as a teenager, some start while they are in diapers going on family vacations abroad to places they don't remember anymore and others start on their own time whether it be in their 20s or in retirement/empty-nesters.
The point is it is never too late to do something extraordinary in your life! You can start traveling at any age and I want to inspire people to use it as a tool to the enlightened self.
