Eden Rock Villa Jade Rental: Everything You Need to Know about St. Bart’s Dream Villa

Recently, I had the opportunity of traveling to the glamorous, flashy island of St. Barthelemy in the Caribbean on a business trip – where I was able to spend a few days at a private villa.  What a once in a lifetime experience!

Have you ever wanted to vacation like a French rock star in the French West Indies? If so, a luxurious stay at Johnny Hallyday’s Villa La Maison de Jade or “Jade Villa” should be added to your travel bucket list.

Jade Villa is located in the Marigot quarter (northeastern part) of St. Barthelemy Island and approximately a 10 minute drive from Gustaf III airport. Jade Villa is only a 5 minute drive from The Eden Rock Hotel where villa guests have access to swim, snorkel and lay out at St. Jean.

This breathtaking villa is well worth splurging on. It features a total 7 bedrooms, 9 bathrooms and an exquisite infinity pool. Per the Eden Rock website, the villa officially sleeps 14 (if not more) and is perfect for large families (why not multigenerational?) or a group of couples/friends who are willing to split the costs.

The layout of the villa is extremely spacious and the vibe of the property can be described as ZEN, ZEN, and more ZEN (GlobalNomad approved!). As you may your way towards the entrance, there is a a small wooden bridge to cross over. Envision seeing and hearing trickling waterfalls, a koi pond with water lilies, beautiful tropical gardens, and Buddhist inspired décor including a large Buddha statue and a massive object d'art reminiscent of what you would see in Angkor Wat or Bali. You can’t help but feel peaceful, relaxed and possibly intrigued; the foyer sets the tone for your stay. Say the words "open sesame" and watch the entry's round glass sliding doors open automatically as you enter and exit. It is quite possibly one of the coolest features in the entire villa.

Inside the main section of the villa, you will find the living room and kitchen in the same open space. If you haven’t caught onto the Zen décor yet, look around and you will see even more ornate Asian relics. Every piece of artwork and furniture (most of which were specially commissioned for the villa) is distinct and purposeful. You can’t help but notice the two 4 foot samurai soldiers on guard on each side of the sliding doors. Owner, Johnny Hallyday, really let his love for all things Asia shine here. Did I mention, he has two adopted daughters from Vietnam and the eldest is named Jade? The living room has roomy sitting area with 3 large comfy sofas, flat screen TV and entertainment center complete with media player(s) and high-tech gadgets. If you can get the high-tech system to work, music or TV playing in the background adds a nice effect, especially if you have a party going on. To boot, the living room and kitchen area have floor to ceiling sliding doors that open up onto the terrace should you want even more open air space. To the left, you will find the fully equipped kitchen with plentiful gadgets and appliances adequate for any foodie. There is also a modern bar with stools.

In addition to the living room/kitchen in the main section of the villa, you will find the main Master Bedroom, fit for a king, which boasts an en suite bathroom and outdoor shower. Right next to the Master Bedroom, there are 2 adorable “Princess Rooms” designed for Johnny Hallyday’s 2 daughters. These smaller sized bedrooms are perfect for children (namely girls as they are bright pink!), but they can also serve extra bedrooms if need be. There is another en-suite bathroom with shower in the same vicinity eliminating the problem of sharing a bathroom.

If you make a left and go down the stairs from the outdoor terrace, you will enter the “bungalow” zone. On one side of the property lie 3 almost identical cottages perfect for couples who want their own privacy. Each cottage is completely separated i.e. not connected to each other at all and contains airy, stylish bedroom, en-suite bathroom and a private terrace. Each cottage has a unique flair in terms of color and interior décor. Two of the cottages have outdoor showers.

Every single bedroom in the villa comes equipped with a king bed, flat screen TV and high-tech entertainment center. The villa has its own telephone system in case you need to call someone in another bedroom, get in touch with the staff or speak with visitors who buzz the intercom to enter the property. The bedrooms are so spread out that this feature comes in handy. It goes without saying that there is wifi on the entire property. Furthermore, a useful Eden Rock beauty pouch with Bulgari products, hair dryer and scale is supplied in each bathroom.

Last but not least is the second Master Bedroom that I have the privilege of staying in. Perhaps the best option as it allows ultimate privacy. This bedroom is below the outdoor deck area off to the right side of the property. You need to go down a flight of steps to get to this Master Bedroom which is essentially a larger “cottage” with outdoor sitting area. The Master Bedroom is almost like a studio with a combo living area in the middle, plenty of closet space, separate sink/counter space and generous bathroom (no outdoor shower though). It is the perfect place to unwind and feels like you have your own vacation rental totally separate from the main villa.

There is also an additional “staff bedroom” suitable for a nanny or other staff employee. Conveniently located beneath the 3 cottages, the extra person staying at the staff bedroom has his/her own privacy.

The outdoor terrace: If you don’t rent the villa for its spaciousness, privacy and convenience of the villa staff’s attentive daily service – you will fall in love with the amazing outdoor terrace which spans the length of the main section of the villa. Guests will want to spend all day and night there, it’s just that beautiful. The heated infinity pool, overlooking Marigot and its bay of gorgeous turquoise water, is alluring and inviting.  Hands down, the views from the pool of Turtle Island and the Mont Jean Hillside are one of villa’s highlights. At night, the pool illuminates and change colors. The pool features a safety sensor system that can be activated, essential for any small children staying at the villa, in case anyone falls in.

Not only do you have a decent sized swimming pool (5 ft depth) to cool yourself off, there is a large table and chairs for eating, barbecue grill, Jacuzzi (fits 5 people), countless lounge chairs and sofas, Gazebo with a king size California day bed, hammock, another outdoor shower and much more. In addition to the eating area inside, there is a massive wooden picnic table that seats up to 20 people. This area provides shade under the covered part of the terrace. The outdoor terrace is THE communal spot for your large group to have meals together. This is the place where your vacation dreams of tanning, relaxing, drinking and eating like the super star you are come true.

Gym/fitness center:  Jade Villa is also home to an air-conditioned gym. There is a Hammam, steam room, massage area, en suite bathroom and large shower all located below the outdoor deck, close to the second Master Bedroom. The gym has all the aerobic and body building equipment you need for the perfect workout and the views to go along to motivate you. Towels and water are readily available.

Spare bathroom for visitors: Need to go to the bathroom before heading out for the day? No need to go back to your private bungalow, there is a full bathroom with shower at the entrance of the villa (right next to the Big Buddha).

St. Barthelemy Eden Rock Villa Jade Movie Theatre

Movie Theater: One can’t forget the villa’s air conditioned movie theatre with seating for 7 located at the entrance of the villa. The all red subdued lighting and Asian décor with Chinese lanterns set the tone for your movie viewing pleasure. You can’t help but fall asleep in the comfy plush seats. Plus you’ll never run out of programs and movies to watch with satellite TV, extensive DVD movie collection and blue-ray DVD player.

Grounds/property: Villa Jade’s landscape is impeccable. You’ll fall in love with its lush gardens that surround the property adding natural privacy. You really get the sense that you are somewhere tropical and in the Caribbean.

St. Barthelemy Eden Rock Villa Jade Stairway Views

Although the villa does not have direct beach access, it has amazing views overlooking Marigot Beach surrounded by lush palm trees and picturesque crystalline waters.  Just jump in your mini cooper or Jeep car rental and drive a few minutes to the beach. Bear mind, the road to get to the villa is steep and hilly and there is really nothing within walking distance (apart from a few other villas). It is also important to note that the villa is not wheelchair accessible; however staying in the main section of the villa is possible and would be the most convenient.

Villa Jade has harmoniously combined two different worlds where East meets west fusing modern and traditional styles. It is the perfect place to revitalize in a lush private paradise.

Having briefly seen 2 other Eden Rock Rental Villas, it is apparent that each property is impeccably managed and cared for (on behalf of the villa’s owners who are not present year round). If you are looking for an over the top villa with amazing views, designer furnishings and seclusion/privacy, then an Eden Rock Villa rental is for you. If you are not sold on Jade Villa, Eden Rock has a portfolio over about 80 private villas ranging from 1-8 bedrooms.

Service: A stay at Villa Jade or any other Eden Rock Villa rental includes a staff (Gardener, Housekeeper & Pool Person). The housekeeper comes daily (except Sundays) to make up the rooms, clean the kitchen area and tidy up in general. Then at night, there is turn-down service. Even though you have your own private villa, you still have a 24/7 Personal Concierge attending to your needs.  They can assist with car rental arrangements, dining reservations & catering, activities & excursions, beach gear and more. Management also supplies a local cell phone in case of emergencies or if you need to get in contact with the Eden Rock Villa staff for anything, even just a simple request like aspirin (a staff member went to the hotel to get it for me!).

Enjoy daily continental breakfast (delicious French pastries + fresh juices) delivered each morning. The fridge is always fully stocked with soft drinks. Feel like having delicious brunch on the outdoor terrace? An Eden Rock chef is available to come to the villa and cook a never-ending brunch for you spanning hours, course after course, upon request.

Each villa stay also includes access to Eden Rock facilities, such as the hotel’s gym, business center restaurants, boutiques, beach + lounge chairs (reservations required) and water sports equipment. Eden Rock will also take care of airport/port transfers (for luxury yachts!) utilizing their onsite vehicles on the property.

You might be thinking WOW I totally want to vacation here. Shocking but not surprisingly the price point is astronomical with an approximate rate of +/- $7145 per night. If split between a group of couples or friends, or renting for a multi-generational family, it at least sounds more reasonable. Good luck renting it during December holidays with a 14 day minimum and $150,000 weekly rental cost!
